Here I will show you how to make your Flash drive to accept files larger than 4Gb.

Probably many of you have noticed that sometimes it’s impossible to transfer files larger than 4Gb ( for example: movies , ISO files or some other types of files) to Flash drive. The reason is that FAT32  file system which  is used when that drive is formatted has a limit of  only 4 Gigabytes for the stored files. In order to deal with this limit you have to format the USB drive as NTFS which allows storing of larger than 4Gb files. If you don’t see the NTFS option when choose format from the right click menu of your drive don’t worry. It is simple. Just follow the steps listed below.

Note: Backup your data because the formatting  will delete it.

1. Insert  the device to one of the free USB ports of your PC.
2. Go to  My Computer.
3. Right-click on the flash drive, then select Properties.
4. Click the Hardware tab.
5. Select the  USB  disk drive, that you want to format and then click Properties.
6. Click the Policies tab.
7. Select Optimize for performance, then click OK.

8. Reinsert the drive
9. Double-click My Computer.
10. Right-click on the flash drive, then select Format.
11. In the File system list, click NTFS.
12. Click Start.

13. Click OK .

Wait until the formatting is finished and  your drive is ready for use.

Remember: from now on you have to use “Safely Remove Hardware” option in the  taskbar when removing  your USB drive from the PC because when it’s formatted as NTFS  the information that you  read/write on it is cached. It means that the data is not recorded immediately to the USB device and if you remove the Flash drive from your PC before this data is written, or while its being written you may lose your  data.
