How to disable UAC (user account control) in Windows Vista
UAC ( User Account Control ) is a feature of Windows Vista designed to increase the security of your system. Every timeĀ you install a new application or make an important change in the system, you will notice a dialog box asking you for confirmation to perform the requested action.
If you are not logged as an Administrator Windows will ask you for the administrator password. While UAC helps you to make your system more secure, it can be very annoying and sometimes confusing. That’s why, in this guide I will try to explain how to disable it.
Note: Stopping UAC is not recommended by Microsoft because it can expose your system to more security risks. It may be useful when you have to install some programs, drivers, etc. but after that it’s better UAC to be turned on again.
To disable UAC go to Control Panel and type UAC in the search box. In the next window you’ll see a link saying “Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off”
On the next screen uncheck the box for “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer”, and then click the OK button.
Now reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
