Today I will try to explain how to remove and replace the keyboard in IBM T41 laptop. This guide may be helpful if your keyboard is damaged or just stoped working properly and you can also access the internal memory slot located underneath, in case if you want to replace/upgrade the laptop memory. I think this guide should work also for some other IBM models like T40,T42 or R50,R51.

CAUTION: Before you begin any of the following procedures, turn off the laptop , unplug the power adapter and remove the battery. Note that computer parts are very sensitive to static electricity so ground yourself before touching anything inside you computer by using grounding strap or touch a metal faucetĀ  pipe.

1. Remove the battery pack.

2. Turn the laptop upside down and remove four screws marked 1.

3. Unlatch the keyboard by pushing it about 2-3 mm. in the direction shown by arrow. You can insert sharp object
between palmrest and the metal part of the keyboard. The keyboard will open up slightly.

4. Pull the keyboard, a few inches toward the palmrest so you can access the cable connector.

5. Carefully disconnect cable and remove the keyboard.

6. Install the new keyboard as follows:

7. First attach the cable connector.

8. Insert the keyboard referring to the following picture. Make sure that the upper edge goes under the bezel.

9. Press gently until the keyboard fits properly into place.

10. Slide the keyboard toward you until its four edges come into the corresponding holes on the palmrest.
