How to remove keyboard and clean cooling fan in HP nc6220
The following short guide describes the procedure of cleaning the cooling fan and heatsink in HP nc 6220 series laptop. Although there is no lid providing access to the fan from the bottom of the laptop, it can easily be accessed by removing the keyboard and the whole procedure would take not more than 10 – 15 minutes. You can also use this guide if you need to replace a damaged keyboard, change thermal grease of the CPU or just to perform a memory upgrade, since one of the RAM slots is located under the keyboard.
CAUTION: Before you begin any of the following procedures, turn off the laptop , unplug the power adapter and remove the battery. Note that computer parts are very sensitive to static electricity so ground yourself before touching anything inside you computer by using grounding strap or touch a metal faucet pipe.
1.Remove the three keyboard screws from the underside of the laptop.
2.In order to release the keyboard, you’ll have to slide the four keyboard clips in the direction shown by the arrows.
3.Carefully lift up the keyboard and place it upside down on the palm rest.
4.It is not necessary but if you want you can disconnect the keyboard and touch pad cables from their connectors by pulling their brown parts about 2 mm up.
5.Remove two screws securing the fan and disconnect fan cable from the motherboard.
6.Now you can clean up the fan and heatsink or change the thermal grease of CPU, if necessary.
