In the following guide I will try to describe the disassembly process of MSI wind u135 laptop. The main reason to take it apart is the replacement of a faulty system board but I think this guide may also help you if your laptop needs cleaning or if you decide to upgrade any hardware component.

1. First you will need to remove the keyboard which is secured by seven tabs.

You can release them by inserting a sharp blade or a flat-head screwdriver between the tabs on the keyboard and the slots on the palm rest. Then carefully pry and lift the keyboard to disengage it from the slots on the palm rest. I suggest you to start from the middle.

2. Turn the keyboard upside down so that you can access the ribbon cable that connects it with the system board. Be careful because any damage to the cable would mean buying a new keyboard.

3. Unlock the ZIF connector by lifting the connector latch (this is the brown part of the locking mechanism) and gently pull the ribbon cable from the connector. Remove the keyboard.

4. Turn the laptop upside-down and remove the 9 screws securing the bottom plastic cover to the computer body.

5. To separate the bottom cover from the laptop lift one side up and then gently push the cover in the direction of the VGA connector. Thus you will release the bottom cover from the VGA Mic and Headphones connectors.

6. Now that you have access to all the hardware components you can continue you work by removing the hard drive as the two screws that fix it to the computer body were removed earlier when you removed the bottom cover.

The only thing you need to do is to slightly lift the hard drive up (only as much as necessary to slide it over the system board) and then pull it out of the SATA connector.

7. Disconnect the antenna cables from the WLAN card and remove the screw that secures the card to the system board.

8. Remove WLAN card.

9. Disconnect the fan cable and remove the screw that secures the cooling fan. Remove the fan.

10. Now it is time to remove the display assembly. You can start by disconnecting both the camera and the microphone cables from the system board.

11. Disconnect the LCD cable.

12. Now you can separate the display assembly from the computer body. The easiest way to do this is to open the display at approximately 90 degree angle but before that I recommend you to replace the two screws that were removed earlier along with the bottom cover. Otherwise you risk damaging the laptop casing in the area around the hinges.

13.  Once you have opened the display you can remove the four screws that secure the display assembly to the computer body.

14. Separate the display assembly from the computer body.

15. Disconnect the speakers cable from the system board.

16. Disconnect the touch pad cable from the ZIF connector on the system board.

17. Carefully separate the system board from the palm rest assembly.

I think that’s all. I hope that the information was helpful.
