This article is a short guide that will help you to insert the Google Analytics code in your Wordpress blog in a few steps.

1. The first thing you have to do get the Google Analytics code. To do this just visit the following site: http://www.google.com/analytics and create a Google account  (if you don’t have one) .

2. Now sign in. If this is your first visit to Google Analytics then most likely you will be prompted to enter the information for the website you want to track.

3. Enter your names, phone number and choose your country.

4. Finally you have to agree with the Google’s terms of service.

5. The nex thing you will see is the Tracking code. Now just copy that code.

6. Log in to your Wordpress Dashboard (admin panel) and go to Appearance > Editor .

7. From the sidebar open the file  footer.php

8. Paste your Google Analytics code into your footer.php file just above the ending body tag and click Update.

Now go back to the Google Analytics site and click Continue. That will take you to your acount overview. Dont worry if you can see any statistics for your website. Google Analytics generally updates your reports every 24 hours. This means that it could take 24 hours for data to appear in your account after you have first installed the tracking code.

If the Tracking Status shows a warning icon, “Tracking status unknown,” then probably the system hasn’t yet detected the code. But if everything is OK you would see something like on the picture below:

You know there are thousands of WordPress themes in the Internet that you can get for your WordPress installation. Most people are looking for themes that are beautiful, functional and mostly free. But sometimes these themes could contain undesirable scripts, links and other code placed  without your knowledge in the theme you are using. The existence of such scripts can be detected with TAC plugin.

What this plugin does is to scan the source files of every installed theme for signs of malicious code.If such code is found, TAC will show you which file in the theme contains the code and it will also show the path to the  file.

The next question is what to do if you find malicious code.Well, just because the code is there doesn’t mean it’s placed there by the theme author.This is because almost any theme could be downloaded from someone who could change its code  and then being provided for downloading by 3rd party websites. In such cases it’s recommended to contact the theme author with the code that the plugin finds, as well as the site where you downloaded the theme.

Anyway, I think it’s better you should always download themes from the WordPress site and not from 3rd party sites.

With the help of All In One Seo Pack you can put descriptions of the posts / pages. Search engines do not exhibit a particular interest in the keywords and description tag, but it is important for consumers – the description can be interesting for them.

All In One Seo Pack also has the option of automatic description – in most cases it choose the first paragraph of the post and puts it as a description of the page, but I recommend you to view and write it yourself.

Reduce used web traffic by caching files on WordPress. This plugin generates static html files from your dynamic WordPress blog. After a html file is generated your webserver will serve that file instead of processing the comparatively heavier and more expensive WordPress PHP scripts. Really useful if you are close to depletion of the capabilities of your hosting account.

• Akismet

It is antispam plugin build in  Wordpress. Akismet should always be turned on because soon after launching the blog the spammers will appear.You can’t live without it because you will need to review and approve a lot of spam comments a day.

• StatPress

Statpress is a plugin for measurement of the visits.Provides detailed statistics for those who visit your blog. It collects information about visitors, spiders, search keywords, feeds, browsers etc.Using StatPress you could spy your visitors while they are surfing your blog or check which are the preferred pages, posts and categories.

• Wordpress automatic upgrade

Automatically update the system according to the latest version, available at WordPress.org. It backs up the files and  the database during the upgrade. This plugin also can be run in a automated mode.

• FeedBurner FeedSmith

For those who use FeedBurner this plugin is required. To use this plugin it is required to register your RSS feeds to  http://www.feedburner.com.  You can then convert the feeds generated by your blog in feedburner feed. Perhaps the biggest advantage is keeping track of RSS subscribers, analyze behavior, etc.

• AdSense Manager

For easy management of ads by Google AdSense I recommend the use of plugin: AdSense Manager. After installation it does not require any adjustments. Just insert  the code generated by AdSense , and  it will find himself all settings.

• WassUp

WassUp  is another plugin to track your visitors. It gives you a detailed statistics about everything your users are doing on your blog.

• WP-PostRatings

Adds an AJAX rating system for your WordPress blog’s post/page. Shows which posts are most liked by the visitors.

• Google Analytics for WordPress

The Google Analytics for WordPress plugin automatically tracks and segments all outbound links from within posts, comment author links, links within comments, blogroll links and downloads. It also allows you to track AdSense clicks.

• Sideblog

Sideblog is a plugin for Wordpress Blog Platform which allows add a system for short messages in the sidebar of your blog.It is very comfortable for posting your immediate thoughts, movements,status update or short stories.

Today I decided to add videos to some of  my  posts that are uploaded on my local server but I found that it is not as easy as it looks. The problem was that when I add an video into post it doesn’t appears where it must be. Instead of this there appears only a white spot with the same  size as the missing video. Later I realized that I need Flash plugin in order to see my videos. If you have the same problem than do the following:

Now the first thing you have to do is to install the flash video plugin in your blog. Leave it with the default settings (later I  changed only the width and height of the video window) . Then convert your video to FLV format with this program. Using of videos from sites like YouTube is even easier because there are programs that convert the downloaded videos in FLV format immediately. In order to upload the clips  you have to create folder on the local server where they will be stored. You can use any name for that folder. When it is done go to post editor and swtich to HTML mode. Then insert the following code to your post:

[flashvideo file=http://yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/video/yourfile.flv /]

where http://yoursite.com is the URL of your web site and yourfile.flv is the name of your video.

For this example I created the folder video in my Wordpress installation directory where to put  my clips. But you can use any place for that folder even on a remote server. The plugin only needs the full URL of your video clips.

OK.Now the video is in your post and you can watch it. But there is one more thing to do. It’s called poster frame  (or image)  and it replaces the background color of the player (the default background color is black) with picture captured from the video clip. You can do this  by playing the video as it is in AVI format in BS player, use the “P” key to capture frame and then save  the  captured frame in  jpg format.

If you want to show a poster frame of your clip you have to add the following lines to the previously added code and make it looks like this:

[flashvideo file=http://yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/video/yourfile.flv / ;image=http://yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/poster-frames/yourfile.jpg /]

Here is created new folder named  poster-frames where the poster frames are stored. Of course you may use any name that you like.

Note: the file names and paths in your code must be the same as they are on your server.

If you just copy and paste code in its original format into your post it will try to work like code and execute its  commands. By default Wordpress will convert it and as a result you will receive unpredictable results like strange pages or  missing symbols in your code or it may just disappear.

In order to publish code into a post it must be converted to a text suitable for publication. It could be made by hand with replacing the following characters with their substitutes.

But there is an easier way to do this using one of the following online converters.

Go to one of  the above sites and paste your code to the empty field. Then click on Encode and you will have new converted code ready for posting.

Note: When inserting your code use HTML mode of  Wordpress editor  not Visual .

Now place <code> and </code>   in your post and paste converted code between these tags. This method worked for me.

Open the Admin panel. Then go to  Appearance >Editor and find sidebar.php  file. Now edit this file with the editor.  All you have to do now is to put comment tags <!-- and --> around the lines making up the META menu like this:
